Surface of the gallbladder is lined by a single columnar epitheium with microvilli on their apical surface. The individual cells are tall and narrow.
The readsorption of water involves the transport NaCl out of the lumen. The hypo-osmolarity drives water across the epithelium.
These cells are actively readsorping water based on changes in their morphology. The hyper-osmolarity at the basal surface of the cells removes water from of their cytoplasm. Extracellular spaces are seen between the lateral surfaces of the epithelial cells.

Mitochondria (#1 and #2) - many located in the apical region of the cells. Provide energy for NaCl transport and water transport.
