Valves are found in small and medium veins from the lower extremities. They are usually found in pairs and prevent the back flow of blood against the force of gravity.
Valves are formed from two leaflets that project into the lumen in the direction of blood flow. The leaflets are outfoldings of the tunic intima with a thin core of collagen and elastic fibers.
This leaflet shows advanced pathology with abnormal thickening of the connective tissue core of the valve.
