Dense irregular connective tissue is found prominently in the dermis of the skin and the lamina propria of the gastrointestinal tract.
The dermis is the layer of skin between the epidermis (the stratified squamous non-keratinized epithelium) and the subcutaneous tissue. The dermis provides tensile strength and elasticity to skin.
