Chapter 16 - Urinary System
The urinary system (also known as the renal system) consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and the urethra. Its functions in the formation of urine and regulation of pressure, volume and pH of blood.
Kidney
The kidney filters blood, removes waste materials and concentrates the filtrate (urine) for elimination. Each kidney contains millions of functional units called nephrons.

Nephron
The nephron is made up of a renal corpuscle and a single long tubule that has several parts (proximal tubule, Henle's loop and distal tubule).

The ureter is a fibromuscular tube through which the urine passes from the kidney to the bladder.

Bladder
The urinary bladder is a muscular sac that stores urine, allowing urination to be infrequent and voluntary.
