The liver is an accessory digestive gland with many functions. The gallbladder stores bile produced by the liver before release into the small intestine.

Liver
The liver has a variety of functions: glucose and lipid metabolism; synthesis of plasma proteins and lipoproteins; detoxification of drugs, metabolites, and xenobiotics; and the production of bile.

Bile Canaliculi
Bile canaliculi are thin tubes that collect bile secreted by hepatocytes.

Glycogen
Glycogen is a multibranched polysaccharide of glucose that represents the main storage of glucose in body. Glycogen is made and stored primarily in the cells of the liver and skeletal muscle.

Kupffer Cells
Kupffer cells are the macrophages attached to endothelial cells of the liver.

Liver Fetal
The liver is the site of blood formation (hematopoiesis) in the fetus.

The gallbladder is a small pouch tha stores bile produced by the liver and concentrates it before release into the small intestine.
