Skin covers the surface of the body and protects it from the environment. It is classified as thick or thin.
Thick Skin
THick skin is devoid of hair and found only on the plantar (foot) and palmar surfaces (hands).
Thin Skin
Thin skin covers most of the body except for the palmar and plantar surfaces of the hands and feet, respictively.

Melanin produced by melanocytes is the most important substance in determining skin color.

Meissner and Pacinian Corpuscles
Meissner and Pacinian corpuscles are specialized nerve endings found in skin.
Scalp with Hair Follicles
Hair follicles are invaginations of the epidermis and are only found in thin skin.
